Western Red Cedar Custom Deck

Seward, AK October 2009

This is a custom timber framed Western Red Cedar deck in Seward. The Cedar comes out of Washington and has a wonderful distictive aroma. It has been a pleasure working with this beautiful wood. Western Red Cedar was chosen for its rot resistance, beauty, and longevity. The plans feature a sunk in  hot tub. We used Alaskan Yellow Cedar for the center posts which contrast nicely. The overall length of the deck is 28 feet. Two beams one 14ft and16ft are joined with a scarf joint. The deck also features curved knee braces, carved pentant railing posts, and tight knot Western red cedar decking.
